| If you like the idea of walking through an enchanted fairy garden, or having your family photos captured in a dreamlike setting full of Alberta history, then you will love Reader Rock Garden for family photos.

Reader Rock Garden is located in the heart of downtown Calgary. Actually, it's hidden in the heart of downtown Calgary. Just south of the infamous Calgary Stampede it practically goes unnoticed from the iconic area. Reader Rock Garden is a magical little gem, full of lush trees, rock pathways, numerous flowers, an adorable gazebo, a variety of lawns, and restored historical house. The house is also a full service cafe, complete with vast views of Calgary's downtown skyline.

Early evening, summer light proved to be quite pretty as we started to explore the unique landscape of the rocky pathways leading up the north side of the park. As an Alberta family photographer of 12+ years, I'm a little red-faced to admit I had no idea this restored park has been here since 1913 and re-opened in 2006. I can't help but regret all this glowing light that I missed out on. This beautiful, glowy light is exactly why Kendra Paige is offering garden family photos at Reader Rock this coming summer. This GAZEBO! Oh my goodness! LOOK at it! It's so, so beautiful I cannot even express how delighted I was to ascend onto this charming little structure at the top of the hill. These busy little girls were so excited to explore more of the pathways that I barely captured any photos of the historical house. So here are a few, just to tempt your curiosity. (Let's take no notice that Mom and Dad are just a bit shy as well).

I mean, this photo is so beautiful, and this is just the driveway! Starting up the south slope, SO many different species of flowers are spread throughout the garden.

These rocky pathways were absolute magic. Every direction you look, looks like something out of a storybook. It's all just so enchanting!

Reader Rock Garden can be booked for a variety of private events. It's so perfect for weddings, and other smaller receptions. And of course family photo sessions. The park is open from sunrise to sunset.

This darling little lawn is called "Nana's Garden". It is lined with rose bushes and receives quite a bit of sunshine, even later in the evening.
